Tuesday 17 July 1917
Up at 6 & tried vainly to get Foote's motor bike to go. I got a lift on the carrier of a bike to the aerodrome. Old Durham had to walk. Left at 7.20 & arrived at Oxford at 8.30 after a nice trip. Got a letter from Ward saying that good old Pearson has been killed by a bomb night flying. So my poor old observer is gone now too. R.I.P. Back to camp & had a swim & some breakfast. Back to aerodrome. In afternoon I tested my engine & later on gave Luxton some dual. At aerodrome till 9.45 p.m. Back to camp to dinner.
