Monday 14 May 1917
Up at 5.30 for early flying. Gave Plimsoll 45 min. dual in BE2E. He did his best to spin me several times! Gave Mitchell 50 minutes dual. He did splendidly & will make a fine pilot. Down to breakfast about 10. Went into Croydon to get photos & then back to aerodrome. Drove to London with Pethy & Brock. Lunch with Pethy & did various jobs till 4 when we had tea at Brock's flat & then drove back. Very little flying in evening. McArdle did in a tail skid on the 2E & so left no machine for night landings. Stayed at aerodrome till 9 working on a scheme of my own for dual control in the RE8. It is going to be the thing.
Poor Owen has been killed in France after having shot down two Huns!
