Monday 5 March 1917
Up at 8.30. Breakfast at 9. Said good bye to Aunty & Cicely. Bryan & Mary came with me in a cab to the station & I said good bye to them there. I wish poor old Bryan had'nt to go out again but it must be done. I hope & pray he will be all right.
Caught the 10 train to East Croydon & got a tram back to the aerodrome. Very "dud" day & very cold. A little snow fell last night. No flying. Back to the "Dell" to lunch. Rang up Winkley & arranged to meet him tonight. Back to aerodrome but no flying. Colonel Hogg & the Wing Commander came to inspect the squadron. Back to tea. Left at 5.30 with Brocklehurst in his Minerva & arrived at the Junior Constitutional at 6.10. Met Winkley & we went to dinner at Prince's & then to see Gerald Du Maurier & Mabel Russell in "London Pride" – splendid show. By tube to the Grosvenor & then & had coffee. Caught the 11.40 to Waddon & walked to the "Dell".
Letter from Burney.
