Tuesday 18 December 1917
Up at 7. Breakfast 7.30. Weather looked very bad but cleared at 9.30 though there was still a strong North wind. Davis & his BEs got off about 10.30. One BE left behind with a broken tailskid. Ramsey crashed an RE. Glanville & I left at 11.50. A good run at 4000 ft. to Rendcomb where we arrived at 12.40. Segrave was there. Cullinan was in a field six miles away with his machine damaged. Curtis has not been heard of. Drove with Segrave to Barnsley & had lunch at the Rectory. After lunch I rode on a push bike to the aerodrome. Davis, Whitmore & Whistance had arrived on BE's. Had tea & then made more enquiries about the others. Naylor is down at Tewkesbury, Pyle at Netheravon, Tylor is missing. No word of Curtis. I fear something serious has happened to him. Sent telegrams to the wing & the squadron. Left at 6.30 & rode back to the Rectory. After dinner Mrs. Vidal & I walked to the Park & I reported to Segrave all the news. Back to Rectory & to bed. This is a real fiasco! I am awfully worried about the whole show and especially about Curtis.
