from Wran. He took out his pen and started taking notes on a large writing pad, asking the Mayor for details.

   When the Mayor had finished talking, Wran asked the others a few questions. I raised the question of the taskforce and he  readily agreed to consider setting one up. Yes, he would soon be making an announcement about the ferry service. He would be delighted to accept my invitation to visit Manly.

   The Manly Daily carried a front page report of the outcome of the deputation, which was headed:

"Tourist aid expected from Wran visit--Manly could be in the running for a special task force and a State Government hand-out to boost its tourist facilities"

   The report went on to describe the deputation and to quote our various accounts:

"...Mr Alan Stewart said the Premier had already expressed interest in Manly's tourist potential... Ald Joan Thorburn said yesterday that the task force idea had been discussed in some depth."

   There was no mention of any concern about the social and environmental impact of tourist development.  

   Faye Williams and I had another conference to draw up an intinerary for Wran's visit. The idea was
