        Subsequently the following letter to the editor was published:

        "My name is Lucy Stewart.   My dad is Alan Stewart, the ALP candidate for Manly.   I'm writing to tell you about a mistake in the story about Dad.

        The four big kids are all teenagers.   Gabby is 18, Marie is 17, Peter is nearly 16 and David is 17, but I'm only 9 1/2."

(This was a genuine  complaint from the   youngest member of the family.)

        But the liberals were still getting the sensational headlines.   Three days before the election the front page of the  Daily  screamed:

        "HYDROFOIL SERVICES MAY BE CUT BACK--TIMETABLE CHANGE AFTER THE ELECTION.

Hydrofoil passengers will soon face restricted services in off-peak periods, informed sources said   yesterday ......"

        Two days before the election George Ashley was given a prominent run under:

        "THREAT OF GAMBLING CASINOS CAUSES CONCERN"

Ashley clamed that he was "gravely concerned at the implications of this matter" and that he had spoken
