        My own affairs required attention.   After some negotiation, I    arranged a loan to replace my clapped-out Holden with a new Commodore, and a building society agreed to a mortgage to enable us to buy a home in the electorate.   At the end of 1979 we moved a few streets from my mother-in-law's home, to an old red brick house above the beach at Curl Curl.
