through the Art Gallery & Public Library. On Wednesday we arranged with Mrs. Watterson (through Mr. Harry) about boarding us. She is a very nice old lady and was living by herself, her husband being dead & all her children married & away. She has let us have a large room in the front of the house, facing South over Mount Pleasant, and the use of the other front room to study in. She is charging us 4/- each for the use of the two rooms, cooking washing ironing and sowing, & to pay for the food at the end of the week which amits amounts to about 6/-. So it is only costing us about 10/- a week to live. Today Wednesday we had to get a lot of text-books amounting to 36/-. Mr. Harry got them because he can get 10% discount, but when we went to pay him, he say said he would not take it till we got work. After tea we went to Mr. Harry's to a party he was giving. We have been introduced into the very best society already. It was a grand affair & no mistake. On Friday we had to buy our drawing instruments. They amounted to £1 but when I we went to pay we got another shock. Mr. Ewins (the owner) said he was going to put them down until we were going ahead alright. We had previously been introduced to him. Had dinner at Mr. Harry's. On Saturday was a Railway to Picnic to Ballarat and the papers say fully 15,000 visitors came into the city from surrounding towns. The return
