Quite a number of "Terriers" (Territorials) are stationed here. They appear very poor as regards physique compared with our lads. I am only small, but I can give nearly every one of them three inches. The "Terriers" are all quartered in the barracks in Cairo. These are immense buildings holding thousands of men. One of them is in the Citadel, and commands a view of the city & environs, the like of which cannot be obtained from any other point.

All the Australasian troops are camped at Mena Camp. To stand on one of the surrounding hills and looking down on this camp, is a sight never to be forgotten. There are twelve battalions of infantry beside artillery, R.A.M.C. Army service etc.
The engineers have hav made a road through the sand of the camp. Each battalion is divided up from the others by stones placed in nice straight lines. These stones were brought from neighbouring hills by the men. The whole appearance now is as though giant children had been playing in the sand at houses & had set off the various rooms by lines of stones.
