in a building belonging to some of the permanent garrison here. It is a beautiful place almost two miles out of town. Being high up the view is magnificent. We use the officer's mess rooms and they have also kindly allowed us free use of their library which is a good one.
To reach here we were driven in hackney carriages or "carotsas" This vehicle is just like an open box on four wheels, and holds four. The driver is perched up in front.
Coming here from the docks, the road winds up the face of the rock and the view becomes better as the height increases.
We made no calls between Lemnos and here. I would liked to have seen something of Malta, but will probably be able to see it on my way back. The water was like glass all the way. Dont think anyone suffered from seasickness.
