13. Too soon we left that leafy lane
And bowled across the open Plain
Suddenly there burst upon our view
A pile of stones  €“ Stonehenge we knew!

14. There is that hallowed spot of old
White - robed Druids - we are told -
Chanted & sang through the summer night
Waiting the hour for the sacred rite.

15. As you stand by the sacrificial stone
You hear in fancy the victim's moan
Did he welcome the rising of the sun
Knowing Death's agony almost done?

16. For as the sun came into sight
And bathed the Altar in golden light
A human sacrifice was made
And tribute to their gods was paid.

17. From Larkhill to Bulford we went to fetch Jack
As we'd arranged to bring the "idle man" back.
Then down to the hotel to have some tea
And off the Flying Corps to see.
