Now comes my - or I should say - ones experience. Jane arranged to go to France on Thursday & book a berth on the steamer for that date, & as she had a new passport, thought everything in order.
On reporting to the embarking officer she was told she could not go unless she stayed 3 months. This she refused to do, & phoned me to say she was returning. Mrs. Chapman - of Bindern Villa - had let her rooms, so I had to send down to ask if Jane could have a room just for a night. While the messenger was away, Jane sent a wire to say she had been able to arrange a passage & was leaving. That meant another messenger to Wool. While he was away Jane phoned up to say she had jibbed at the last minute & was returning to Wool. I went down myself to meet her & poor girl, looked awfully done up. I am glad she did not go, because with the weather we have had of late, & mines being adrift, things are not too safe.
As there was no place in Wool for her to stay at, she has gone to Weymouth too.
