"F" Coy. 3rd Battn.
At Sea.

My dear Mother,

Brother Eric & myself still keeping A.1. Eric seems to keep cheerful. When he is not busy I see him from 11  €“ 12 noon, 3 to 4 pm and again in the evening for about half an hour.

There is a gunnery chap in "F" Coy whom I used to teach at E'ville. He also knows Eric well, though I do not think they have met on board yet.

Took Eric down to meet Mr De Putren the other day. The old chap seemed to take quite an interest in Eric. The hospital is fairly full so Mr de Putren does not get a great deal of time to himself.

The other Saturday the 3rd Bn. held sports. Everybody seemed to enjoy themselves and most of the events had a lot of entries. Especially the pillow fight. For this a pole was swung over a large canvas tank filled with sea water. The competitors sat across this pole facing one another. As one hand had to be kept behind the back & the other used for swinging the pillow, you can imagine it would not take too much of a hit to knock a man off his perch. In fact it did not take a blow at all to topple me over. My opponent made an
