a causeway has only been known within the last few years. The temple next to the third pyramid is of exceptional interest as regards the columns. In all the other temples the columns are made of solid stone or with a core of ordinary stone surrounded by slabs of polished stone. When the excavation of this temple was commenced, the columns were found to contain a stone core surrounded by mud bricks coated with mud and painted over. This style was something new and a reason could not be given until the base of the columns were reached where the
