intentions into execution. He should meet with very strong support, both he and grandfather being so well known in the district and town. I feel having something to work for, some object to attain some good for his fellow man to be done, he would be much happier and contented. I don't mean to infer that he is unhappy and discontented at the present time. There are so many degrees of happiness and contentedness. Hope Father won't mind being discussed by one of his sons in this manner. Except the clipping you enclosed in your letter  €“ which (the clipping) looks to be from a local paper  €“ I have seen no other mention of the above fact. It was this very omission which made me express the hope that Father intended carrying on with his intentions.

I did see a few lines in one of the late papers you sent which fired my attention. They were to the effect that in future all promotions on the Gallipoli Peninsula were to be according to merit. I would also like to "speak a piece" on the above par, but I suppose the censor would in the execution of his duty, have to employ the scissors. I suppose you know that amongst the many things we are forbidden to mention in our correspondence are the discussions of our officers, and our opinions on their doings and the doings of the force as a whole.
