France.
1. 7.17.
My dear Mother,
In France at last. Left England last Tuesday morning. It was terrible parting from Jane. I am afraid she is feeling it very much too. As soon as I got word to move Jane & I went to London & stayed with the Knights. I am awfully glad we went there, for I know they will do all they can to cheer her up. I would have felt the parting much more, if I had to leave Jane alone in London. I think she will probably go to Greenhall for a few weeks. That will do her good. She will, if possible, stay there till Eric comes to England. As I won't be able to see him, I want her to wait in England to see him. She can then come across to France if she wants to.
France is looking splendid now. The growth everywhere is most luxuriant.
Though I am not yet with the Bn I have met many officers whom I know.
It would be grand if I could have a camera here. There are so many places I would like to take snaps of.
Love to all, and don't worry about me dear Mother, for I am quite alright.
Your affect. son Ralph.
