France 19.9.17

My dear Mother,

A letter came from you during the week. They come at most irregular times now. We should not growl though, I suppose, for it is wonderful that so much mail does get through the supposed blockade.

We have not seen a paper here for some little time, but we are told that the war is going on alright for us. You probably know more about it than we do.

I know this much that our men are wonderfully cheerful, and confident. The morale of the troops is splendid.

If this fine weather will only last a little while longer we will have Fritz scratching his head. In fact I think he must be doing that now.

I am still feeling very fit. The outdoor life & exercise agrees with me.
