My dear Mother,

The above is just to let you know where I am. My permanent address is still c/o Royal Colonial Institute. Arrived here yesterday afternoon & found I know a number of the officers. They were in the Abbey Wood Camp with me. It is much nicer to know someone when going to a new Camp. The Camp is on part of Salisbury Plains & is better than I expected it to be, though naturally it is a contrast to living in London.

I was sorry I had to come away before Eric had finished his holiday, but I think he did manage getting about by himself alright. It was splendid luck seeing so much of him.

I am so glad Miss Grant took my godson down to see you. I feel quite proud of him.

The Commandant of the camp is Lt. Col. Osborne of the R.G.A. and the Adj. is Capt Croley an old Indian soldier. Having two old regulars at the head of affairs puts the camp on a sound working basis.
