My dear Mother,
The past week has been such a rush that I hardly know if I am on my head or my heels. As I told you in my last letter Capt Croly came back to Perham Down, & I handed over the Adjutancy to him. Last Tuesday I went to H.Qs. to see if my leave had gone through. After the leave was over I wanted to rejoin my unit in France. Whilst making these enquiries Gen. Moore sent for me, & told me that I could get neither leave nor go to France, as he had another job for me, & that was to go as Adjutant to start a new camp at this place I am in now.
I motored all the way down on Wednesday to have a look at the place. The D.A.Q.M.G. [Deputy Assistant Quartermaster General] (Maj. Wall, who was the original Q.M. of the 3rd) and the R.T.O. (railway transport officer) came down with me. It was certainly a beautiful trip down. We came through Salisbury, Blanford, [Blandford] Kingston & Bere Regis.
After a good look round we motored back through Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch.
On Thursday I motored down again. This time with Lt. Jones who is now Q.M. of the Camp.
