My dear Mother,
You will see that I am writing this a couple of days later than my usual time. The reason is that I have been on the move the last few days & I have not had the time.
I was awfully sorry to leave Cumnor and they did not want me to go. There was some talk of "James" going on strike so that I could not get down to the station. I don't know if I mentioned before that "James" is Miss Wartenby, who drives the car for Miss Jervois.
I am afraid I have not been able to thank the Misses Jervois for their kindness so I was wondering if it would right if you were to drop them a note. It does not say much for me does it when I have to come to you to do the thanking business. But you know what a poor hand I am at that sort of thing. They are such fine women that I am in love with both
