My dear Mother,

Jane tells me she wrote to you a couple of days ago re the King's review. I am sure she will be able to give a far better description than what I could so I won't attempt it. On Monday I got quite a surprise, when H.Qrs. informed me that the King was going to present my D.C.M. You can imagine how excited Jane was, & on the day of the review, well - as she would say herself - "Oh! la! la!". She couldn't keep still for one second.

It was a glorious day. Monday was cold, wet & miserable, & a hurricane blew all Monday night, so no one hoped for a very good day. Wednesday was rotten, too, so we were very lucky indeed.
