Gallipoli
1. 8. 15

[Newspaper clipping]
Corporal R. I. Moore, 3rd Australian Infantry Battalion (New South Wales)
From 25th to 29th April, 1915, during operations near Kaba Tepe. Commanded his section under heavy and continuous fire from snipers who were within thirty yards of his trench. He displayed exceptional courage in twice advancing alone about twenty yards, and on the second occasion he accounted for five of the enemy.

My dear Mother

It seems almost incredible that a year has gone by since war was declared. It will soon be a year since I enlisted. In spite of trench warfare being so monotonous, the time seems to fly along quicker every month.

Our Company Sgt. Major came back from hospital this morning. He brought the enclosed clipping with him taken I think from the "Times" (London). You don't want to believe all you see in print though. Lord only knows where some of the war correspondents get their information from. The clipping is rather bashed about as Allan had been carrying it in his pocket for some days.

I meant to ask you in my last letter if Harry had fixed up about the house O.K?   I hope he did & had no trouble doing so.

Just lately I had written very few letters. Must be getting very lazy or very brain sluggish & must turn out ideas.

Don't know what Penn must think of me for I have not sent him a line for a long time.

Love to all
Your affec. son,
Ralph.
