The weather is still bitterly cold & the ground is covered with snow. The snow fell last Sunday, & yet there is no sign of a thaw. Everybody says it is the worst winter they have experienced for many years. Last year was bad enough especially during the time of the big blizzard but it was nothing like the weather we are getting at present. Annie tells me too, that it is awful in Paris now, & for a fortnight they have had no water in their rooms. They have to bring the kettles downstairs in the morning & leave them with the concierge, taking them up again in the evening.

The Col. went across to Tidworth on Friday to act as a member on a General Court Martial. He came back with a very good story about Col.
