[Following on from Page 258]

comes to see me every day now & brings a couple of pounds of grapes. Yesterday he brought a tin of apricots. They were grand. I gave him the money & he got what he could. He is an awfully nice chap. He was sent here some time back sick. He is still marked unfit for active service so he has taken the job on as clerk to the "Beach Master" until such time as he can return. He is a journalist & has travelled a good deal.

Did I tell you before that the Camp Commandant  €“ that is the man in charge of all the camps on the island  €“ is Lord Dudley so well known to all Australians. Funny that he should be sent out here.
