My dear Mother,
In Paris at last & having a good time. Left London early on Friday morning and did not reach Paris until midnight. A long time to get such a short distance. Such a lot of time is spent in getting things through the customs. Fortunately I was able to get through without any trouble, being in uniform. But I had a lot of bother getting permission from the War Office to come across. I had to promise to go in uniform and also not to go any where near the war zone. As it was so late on reaching Paris I went to the Grand Hotel. This is one of the finest hotels in Paris, but again I was in luck's way, because being an officer they put me up for half price. Had good company coming across. Met three mining engineers on their way to Burmah. Two of them had been out in Australia & knew a lot of the men I have met. Very calm trip in the boat.
