Same old spot.

My dear Mother,
We have been expecting another mail the last couple of days, but it has not put in an appearance yet. I believe there are a number of bags at head quarters undelivered yet. We should get three mails per month when everything is running smoothly. The parcel you mentioned in your last letter has not come to hand so far. Parcels always arrive a week or so later than letters posted at the same time. All previous parcels have arrived safely. If you have not sent on my new glasses by the time this reaches you, will you enclose my fountain pen. I meant to ask for it a long time back, but must have forgotten. I would like to get the glasses as soon as possible. Also enclose a few chocolates €“ the hard stuff. Luxuries practically unobtainable here. I must keep you busy sending me stuff, but I know you wont mind the extra trouble.
Did I tell you about Ray Smith. He is not so badly wounded as at first thought, & should soon be back with us in the firing line. One of our men just back from hospital met him at one of the base hospitals.
It is just as well for us the Turks are not so numerous as the flies. These are something cruel. Anything put down for a couple of seconds disappears under a layer of flies fighting and struggling to get at the food.
Have managed to save an envelope. This reminds me, if we are to stay here much longer you had better send me a few of them too.
Love to all. Your affec. Son Ralph
