All the Turkish prisoners that have been captured on the Canal are being brought to Cairo where a special camp has been made for them. Some of them looked starved, and nearly all are in rags and without boots. I saw one of their biscuits  €“ which is their chief ration  €“ It was so hard that I could not make a dent in it with my teeth, and I thought I was fairly strong in the jaws. One of the prisoners was describing the fight in which his Company took part. It was very short but graphic. In broken English he said "We go 'long. Shell go "Puff", nine left." He seemed quite pleased to be one of the nine. Not many of these men talk English.

Hine, Smith, James (who is well again) & I took another interesting trip last Wednesday afternoon. We hired donkeys in Cairo and went to the small Petrified Forest. To go to the large Petrified Forest takes a whole day.
