France 9.9.17

My dear Mother,

I have just had a letter from Eric, saying that at last he has been successful in getting a transfer to the R.N.A.S. [Royal Naval Air Service]. For his own sake I am glad. On the other hand I am very sorry. For you will miss him tremendously. He was a connecting link between us, & now I suppose he will have to make his home in England. However I sincerely hope it won't be long before we are both able to return to Australia.

Last week I was away from the Bn. & living with an English Regiment. They were very kind to me, & assisted me all they could on the job I was on.

Before I get away from the subject, though, Eric is going to Greenhall for a while, as he has short leave before taking up his new duties. Jane has left Lady Lawson & is going to Greenhall too for a time. I am so glad they will be together
