3.

I think I mentioned in a former letter Corp. Maxwell who earned a D.C.M. [Distinguished Conduct Medal] in the Boer War. He is a fine chap and a thoroughly practical old war horse. Still I am very much afraid we are to lose him from our Coy. Col. Cox has just arrived with the 2nd Contingent of Light Horse. As soon as Col. Cox learned where Maxwell was he wrote to Col. Owen and asked him if he would as a personal favour let Maxwell be transferred to the 6th Light Horse. Col. Cox & Maxwell were together through most of the Boer War, and such a request is a splendid recommendation for Maxwell. We will be sorry to lose him & yet glad for it will mean more congenial work & also a promotion.

With this letter I am enclosing some used Egyptian stamps and a film. The photo is of "A" Coy's tent lines. The third tent from the rear end (shed end) is the one I live in. This film is one of six I had developed here. The other five turned out O.K. but some of the men wanted prints off them. When finished with I will forward them on to you. If the films I sent you before turn out as well as the ones I have seen it wont be too bad. One cant expect too much from snaps.
