temples etc are found scattered over the whole of Egypt.

Quite close to the statues is an Alabaster Sphynx in situ. This was only unearthed two years ago by Professor Petrie. It is calculated to weigh about 90 tons, is 26 feet long and 14 feet high. Like the large Sphynx at the Gizeh pyramids it is made of a solid block of stone. Shortly after leaving Memphis we emerged once more onto the desert. Standing up out of the sand are the pyramids of Sakkarah and Dahshur. We did not have time to visit the latter as they are about three miles further south.
