the soldier can keep a record himself of what he has received. The march lasted all day, and we went through many native villages. Without looking up, one can always tell when nearing a village by the smell. All the inhabitants came out at each village to watch us pass.

Let me know if a former letter of mine containing a set of unmarked Egyptian stamps reaches you. I have been thinking since that I should have registered the letter.

Every day almost I see things that I would like to buy, but when only drawing 1/6 a day I have to be very careful how I splash round.
