the prevalent winds are from the south. These are called Khamseen or more correctly Khamaseen. (Arabic for fifty). So called because the worst of these winds generally last over a period of fifty days. These winds  €“ in fact any breeze - carries a certain amount of sand along varying in quantity proportionately to the strength of the wind. The sand acts in the same way as a snow drift  €“ gradually piling up against the side of a building, and eventually burying it. Should a building be left for a short time say a hundred years  €“ this is a short time when speaking of Egypt,
