Terriers look on us more as cannibals or wild men from the bush, than ordinary human beings. I think it is absolutely impossible to break the Australians into the strict obedience observed in Imperial regiments. Some of the tales told about the Australians are very funny. Here are two. A soldier was passing the entrance of the Kasr-el-Nil Barracks. The sentry (a Terrier) cried "Halt! Who goes there?" Voice from the darkness "What the b--- hell has that to do with you?" Sentry  €“ "Pass Australians all's well."

Another:- Officer inspecting lines before being marched out. He stops at one typical Australian and says
