After a day and half outside, we (the 3rd division) moved into the harbour to take water aboard. Shortly after we moved in the 1 and 2 divisions and the New Zealanders went on their way. Being Though anchored out in the harbour we could distinctly see rickshaws and wagons drawn by humped bullocks.*
Both Eric and myself are keeping well and hope to [indecipherable] in landing about Xmas time in good condition.
This letter should reach you before Xmas, so I wish you all a real merry Xmas that is as happy as it can be with two of us away, because up to the present I have been the only truant, but now there are two, but we will make up for that when we get back.
I am sorry to say that no letters have been delivered to us yet, though I fully expected to get a few letters at Colombo. The postal arrangements are very poor.

*After leaving Colombo we went fairly fast, caught the remainder of the fleet, past it and we are now well ahead.
