"F" Coy. 3rd Battn
At Sea.
30. 10. 14
My Dear Mother,
There is very little to tell you about, because you will know that we are not allowed to give any details as to whereabouts, troops etc.
I told you in my last letter that I was getting instruction with the Machine Gun Section. There were two men picked out from each Company. The other man picked out from "F" Coy. is a young fellow named Gordon. Before he joined he was a teacher at Erskineville School. He knows Messrs Hobbs, Hathaway, Cameron and Herlihey. He is only a young chap & very keen on his work. In the militia he was a Sergeant of the Machine Gun Section of the 34th regiment. I think Eric belonged to 33th or vice versa, so they would do not know each other.
Have met Staff Sergeant Deputross (is that the correct way to spell his name?) on board. When I get time I will take Eric down to see him.

Will close now with love to all
Your affec. son
Ralph.
