My dear Mother
Your welcome letter came as usual this morning, also the papers.

You forgot to include the addresses of the two Adelaide ladies that you mentioned before. You might send them when you get Harry Sales address. Last Sunday Alec Campbell & I rode our bikes out to Stephen's Creek a distance of about twelve miles. Stephen's Creek is the water supply for BH. It at present is just about full  €“ the first time for many years. It is a large stretch of water, but rather shallow. The evaporation of such a thin sheet of water in this climate is something enormous. For every one pint of water that is consumed, six  are evaporated. Our ride out there was good as we had the wind at our backs. We had to get off many times & push our bikes owing to the soft clinging sand. It is an impossibility to ride the machine through these patches. The wheels simply stop & refuse to budge. Even motor bikes are pulled up. This sort of thing would not be so bad if the sand were cooler. But
