During the concert it was supposed that an argument had arisen between Lts Carter and McConaghy about the horse race. They put the gloves on and started to decide the matter on the platform. About the middle of second round the stage was mobbed by the remaining officers. It looked like a rugby scrum. Another very laughable boxing event was that between Sgt Wallesley 4'6 and Sgt McGowan 6'7". I might mention here that Wallesley is the chiropodist attached to the A.M.C. [Australian Medical Corps] hence his height did not prevent him getting in. Both were in bathing costume and nothing looked more ridiculous. In the third round Wallesley grabbed a corner chair, stood on it and knocked McGowan out. Great cheering. McGowan divested of his Identity Disc and Pay Book, and carried out on a stretcher. The farce was delightfully acted.
