About the best item during the afternoon was the Officer's O'Gradeys Drill and Kit Inspection. There are seven officers attached to "A" Coy and the details attached to "A" Coy. We previously packed seven kits. When the "Defaulters Call" blew the officers had to run and get their kit. A man was stationed over them to ensure that each officer got the kit that had been specially packed for him. The kit was placed on back to front, that is with the pack on their chest. As a couple of these packs were filled with heavy stones, it was next to impossible for them to stand up straight. Needless to say these were the officers that had often growled that we did not carry sufficient material in our packs. The inspection was carried out by Sgt Stewart. He was dressed up as a freak general. His medals consisted of Identity Discs hung from bits of coloured rags. He is a splendid mimic and took off our own Sgt-Major and the Brigadier to a nicety.
