The service was most impressive especially at the end when sixteen bugles blew the Last Post. There were many moist eyes, because it made us all think of the many fine chaps who had made the great sacrifice just a year ago. The people were dense just outside the Abbey. When Birdwood came out, he received a wonderful cheer & from Englishmen as well as Australians.
Wherever we marched the streets were packed with spectators. They gave us a fine reception. I never heard so much cheering before in my life.
From the Abbey we marched along Victoria St round Buckingham Palace, along the Mall and into The Strand. After lunch at the Hotel Cecil (for most of the men, some went to the Anzac Buffet) men went to various theatres.
I stayed in town and had dinner with the Misses Jervois. Coming home at about eleven pm I saw my first Zepp. It was a long way off but quite distinct with the sunlight on it. It was too far away for the guns to do any damage to it.
