My dear Mother,
At last I have had good news of Eric. Mrs. Knight wrote to say Mr. Knight found out that his ship was quite alright. That is comforting news & it should not be long before we have a letter from him, or more likely he will turn up without any warning.
Capt. Jones - who was Q.M. of Bovington Camp when I was Adj. there - came across to see me last week. I think I told you before how he had tried to get back to his Bn. & had even got to Fr. twice & was recalled. I would not be surprised if the same thing happens this time.
Last Thursday morning one of our scouting planes of the latest pattern was forced to land in a wheat field a couple of hundred yards from our billet. He was returning from patrolling over the lines when something went wrong with the engine.
