I had often heard of these butter dogs, but had never had the chance before of seeing one at work.   The chaff, too, is cut by means of a horse walking in a treadmill.

I have heard nothing further of Ray Smith so do not know if he is joining up with this Bn. again. If he is he has not arrived yet. Did I tell you though that "Massie" Harris is a private in the Bn. He was at Erskineville with me, & became a school teacher the same time as I did. He was afterwards teaching in Broken Hill, when I was there.
