lucky in getting such a clean wound. The bullet passed thro his thigh without touching a nerve artery or bone. He is an awfully modest chap so it is a hard job to get him to talk. It was an awfully plucky thing to do - tackle 10 enemy planes, each of which held two men, where he was in a single seater. There is only one other airman with the V.C. & that is Warneford, & Rees is the only airman with the V.C. & M.C. - a wonderful record.
We could not stay long, as he was about to have his leg dressed. It is a wonderful place he is in. One of England's finest country mansion, set in beautiful grounds. Mrs. M. Nora & I went to the White Hart in Salisbury for tea, & after a short stroll round the Cathedral, I had to leave for home, or rather Camp.
On Wednesday night I ha lost another couple of hours work, which had to be picked up later on. Through a different cause though. Gen. Sir Newton J. Moore, Col. Tedder, Col. Brasch and Lt Dawson (A.D.C.) came to Mess with us. Everything passed off swimmingly, and everyone enjoyed themselves. I am enclosing a Menu, with all the names on. We have rather a small Mess menu
