a law in our section not to steal from ones mates or any man in the section, outside the section it doesn't apply, they are the limit. We wanted iron for a cook house, couldn't be got thro headquaters at all - but No 2 section got it, I never asked where, its not good policy or good etiquette, got some dozen sheets of the best, & said something about there being another 60 sheets. The chief of my brigade is an individual by the name of Stone. He is most excellent at the job, frequently it has only been with difficulty that I managed to keep from laughing at some of his remarks, only this morning we were marching up a steep hill, a long one, one of the sappers was puffing & blowing & was about to spit, when Stone pulled him up with the remark "don't spit Bill you might need it."
We are preparing for a long route march with the Division somewhere about 14 miles - we ride horses - but whilst in preparation - march with the men.
