Have just returned from the trenches having walked over the sector in the darkness visiting different jobs, let me assure you walking overland at night is no joke, there are no landmarks to guide you & frequently you wonder if you are walking over to Fritz. Its not so difficult as it sounds to visit old Fritzie, a few machine gun bullets whissing past make you embrace Mother Earth pretty sudden you don't stop to think or to look for a nice spot, down you go quick & lively.
Our great trouble is to get working parties, much of the work has to be done at night & its frequently a case of losing your way.
Yesterday Fritzie locked us up in the trenches the bombardment was solid & heavy we had given him a raid the night before, he doesn't like raids
