Dear Mr Stanley,
Many thanks for your letter of 12/10/17 - very much O.A.S. You chaps have a lively time there's no doubt at all. I hope everything is O.K.still with you & that you are still going strong. Are you still in 10th Field Co.?
We've just had particulars of Ronald's "knock out". He seems to have had a bad time getting back to Base Hospital & a rotten time later. However latest cable says "doing well" - so we are relieved. As far as we know he is still at Boulogne, 14th G.H. but you may be more up to date by the time you get this. We hope he will be moved out to Australia as soon as he can travel, no hope O.A.S. for him I guess, though civilianly he may be as good as ever.
Cross is in Egypt - cable yesterday "disembarkment at Suez" left here 5/11/17. Expect they'll train through the winter. Oscar (the young brother) is back in Hrs. after getting to light duty owing to foot breaking out again, may be in England several months yet.
I hope you have had something of a Xmas. [indecipherable] into everything & that you get good news from home. We're doing our best to [indecipherable] 'Yes' in Australia for Reinforcements..
My Father & Sister are not too brilliant but the latter is recovering slowly. Good luck to you & best wishes for 1918.
Sincerely yours
Susie Highfield

The "wee bit flower" is N.S.W. Xmas bush not yet quite fully ripe (Ceratopetalum Gummiferum) - it is very fine this year in gardens & bush, also Xmas bells.
