 Dear Florrie

A couple of my old chaps have been wounded.  I saw one Vincent a couple of moments ago, he got a machine gun bullet thro the arm.  The other chap is Candy they were quite happy.  Last night was the night, I had surveyed the track the night before by which our men had to go to the point of assembly, & I had watched the men massing behind the lines, it is inspiring.

This morning I watched the wounded coming in - awful.  I went to the A.M.C. to see my men & never will the impression fade from my mind, just a confused flow of wounded, Australian & German, on some faces death had already laid its mark, others flushed
