pulled her chair next to mine but how can I recount everything, my emotions were in a complete whirl & time flew all to quickly. New Zealand, Australia, the war, the voyage, Raetihi, all you folks, England, Cousin Amy, Tilly, Elsworth, Nathaniel, Annie, myself everybody & everything passed swiftly under review. A nice warming fire, the laughter & tears of memories revived again from the days of [indecipherable] to this present & best of all to be surrounded by ones own kin, it is glorious, its worth coming to the war to spend an evening thus. England had meant so little to me, now it means a great deal. Letters are all right in their way but to feel & touch & kiss those whom you love, nothing can compare with it. We went to bed about 11.30 pm, I was tired out really weary with excitement & slept like a top. Next morning the girls came into my room whilst I shaved & we chatted & teased & laughed until breakfast time. After breakfast Winnie, Irene & I went for a walk thro some woods, didn't go far, too much to talk about, going out with some real live girl cousins is some experience you know. Irene dropped some of the "Malcolm" substituting "Trouble", she is such a "bonser" little bit of goods. I called her "School Marm" etc. Winnie is awfully neat is engaged & expects shortly to be married, suggests that I become "best man" etc. Annie was away from home but intends to see me later, Elsworth is in France at the General Headquarters on work which ought to suit him. I didn't chat over him much.
