little ones name & it held up its pretty little face to be kissed - a feat I accomplished without difficulty or diffidence. I had not enough change but the lady insisted on my taking the cards & to call on her again. Further on I was able to help a New Zealander to purchase something he required, at this latter shop I purchased some tokens for Florrie, can't say exactly what they are, some are catholic & one is a Joan of Arc token.
The streets were awfully filthy & irregular & run in any direction.
Looking around I called in a "dèbitant" [?] for a cup of coffee - this latter is excellently made here - the first would not serve me ostensibily because there was an order against serving something to drink till 6 pm, actually because it was too much trouble, so I went to another, here I was taken into a room in the rear, Madam made me "une tasse du café"
