who presented me with a couple of pipes gold mounted & amber mouth pieces. I'm smoking one of them now, they're not seasoned yet, as a matter fact they permitted me to select them. I also purchased an automatic revolver, cost me a fiver but it is a beauty & ought to be useful although I hope I may not have to use it much. Harris Scarfe is a large firm & we did a good bit of business with them & many an awkward moment I had there but they were awfully decent thro it all.
At the station, Miss Rooney, Mr & Mrs Scott & one of our office staff saw me away. Miss Rooney gave me a silk khaki handkerchief & Mum gave me a parcel to open when I am on the Boat.
Coming thro Mount Barker I met Mrs. Malcolm Scott & Miss Dumas, Miss Mrs. Scott had her little one with her & it was simply lovely to see them again. They waved until the train passed around the bend.
I had dinner at Murray Bridge - Mrs. Barnes joined me and I journed [journeyed] a few miles with her & about 10 p.m., I went off to my berth. My companion being a man whom I knew slightly in Adelaide & with whom I enjoyed a most interesting few hours.
We arrived at Melb. at 10 a.m. Friday Thursday & I was surprised to meet Stanley. I had a conversation with
