My dear Mother Father & Sister

Today I am orderly officer again & except for Church Parade this morning there's been nothing doing its just been a question of hanging around. It's been raining heavily by good fortune I had placed a waterproof sheet on my bed, there's a nice little pool of water right in the middle of it, its better where it is than among the blankets & I survey its prersent position with pleasure, my books have suffered frequently but they're beyond an occasional wetting. Our trench coats are just fine they contain 3 thicknesses of waterproof material & help to keep a body warm of course they are heavy but that doesn't matter much.

I am enclosing a couple of leaves the smaller is from "Constables" home near Dedham, the larger one is from Gainsboroughs home at East Beighoult, [also spelt Bergholt] the P.C.s will show paintings by these men.

A gramaphone has come to the mess beastly articles I admit but one has to smile, we can screech out anything from"Who paid the rent for Mrs Rip Van Winkle" upwards.

Yesterday I cruised round on a bicycle & visited Frating and Elmstead   the church at the latter spot is unique, the old fashioned high backed pews still exist   they must be 5'0" high, on the wall is a wooden figure of a knight who visited the Holy Land during the Crusades twice. I
